Help a learner select the right state and test type, understand a missed answer, and choose only the access they need. Product and live web pricing checked October 17, 2026. Allow 25–35 minutes to read and practice.
Explain the first useful result
PassMyDMV provides written-exam practice for car, motorcycle, and commercial license study across the 50 US states. Questions include explanations and references to official driver manuals. The useful first result is learning which topic to review and finding its source, rather than simply seeing a score.
Say: “Choose your state and test type, try a few questions, then use the answer review to find what to study in the official manual.” It is an independent study product. It does not issue permits, book an official test, satisfy required driver training by itself, or guarantee an official pass.
Identify a learner it fits
Good prospects include a teen preparing for a first written permit test, an adult returning to study, someone preparing for motorcycle knowledge questions, or a commercial-license learner wanting structured written practice. Match the state where the person will take the test, rather than where you happen to live.
Ask:
- In which state will you take the official test?
- Are you studying for car, motorcycle, or commercial/CDL?
- When is your expected test date?
- Have you read the official manual yet?
- Which topics have been difficult: signs, rules, or another chapter?
- Do you need a short refresher or several weeks of study?
For CDL, confirm the relevant official class and endorsement requirements directly with the licensing agency. Do not infer coverage of every endorsement or hands-on requirement from the presence of a CDL option. If someone only needs the official manual, show the source; a paid pass is not necessary to obtain government information.
Understand free access before discussing payment
The current live offer is three questions before signup, then continued practice within ten free questions total. Questions answered before signup and a scored preview count toward that same total. It is not ten additional questions after the initial three. A free account is offered without a credit card and helps preserve progress.
The free allowance is shared across practice and scored previews. Resume an unfinished session rather than starting another one: an existing session can already have questions reserved for it. Use the app’s actual remaining-access message when explaining what is available. A small scored sample is not a prediction of readiness for the full official exam.
Some old search snippets or cached pages may show a larger allowance. Use the actual current app and live pricing page. If the account shows fewer remaining questions, check whether it has already answered questions or used a scored preview. Do not promise unlimited free practice or coach people to make duplicate accounts.
Match a pass to the actual study window
These are US-dollar web prices, all for one person with one-time payment and no automatic renewal:
| Pass | Web price | Coverage |
|---|---|---|
| 48-Hour Exam Pass | $2.99 | One selected state, all license classes |
| 7-Day Cram Pass | $5.99 | All states and classes |
| One year | $19.99 | All states and classes for one year |
| Lifetime | $129.99 | All states and classes under the product's lifetime terms |
Paid access unlocks the relevant question bank, chapter practice, missed-question retakes, and full simulations for the plan's coverage. Recommend the shortest sensible period with enough time for the learner's plan. A person testing in three weeks should not be told that a 48-hour purchase now covers that entire period.
Read the purchase screen's state, class, duration, price, and activation terms before confirming. The 48-hour pass is tied to the chosen state; the longer all-state options are different products. A single-person purchase is not a family or classroom license.
Apple and Google may show different available products, localized prices, and purchase rules. The native purchase sheet is authoritative for that purchase. Never substitute the web price for an unseen store offer or promise that every web pass is offered in every installed app version.
Lesson 1 — Start from the right state and class
Have the learner open your personal PassMyDMV referral link from Residual Apps. On the start screen, choose Where are you taking your test? and the appropriate Test type when offered, then choose Start my free practice test. Check the state and license class again on the study screen.
An existing learner should log in using their original account so progress and access stay together. A new learner can try the anonymous questions and follow Create my free account to save progress and continue within the free limit. Use the same browser for that handoff when possible.
The learner should enter their own email and credentials. A parent's email is not automatically interchangeable with the learner's purchased account. Keep track of which account owns the pass before changing devices.
Lesson 2 — Answer carefully and learn from the explanation
Read the full question and all choices. Select the intended answer and follow the app's next/answer controls. Use the explanation and source reference when the practice mode reveals them. An exam simulation deliberately withholds explanations until the end, so it behaves differently from ordinary practice.
If a question seems wrong or confusing, open its source reference in the official manual and inspect the surrounding section. Report a suspected content problem with the state, class, question wording, and source page. Do not invent an explanation or tell the learner that the app overrides an official rule.
Keep a connection while working. If the page fails, return to the saved session and inspect its status before answering again or opening a new session. Do not clear browser data during recovery of anonymous progress. A spinner or a selected answer alone is not proof that an answer was saved.
Lesson 3 — Use the result to choose the next topic
On the result page, inspect Your practice results, Review these topics next, and Your answer review. Review both missed and correct answers. A lucky guess can still reveal a weak topic.
For each missed answer:
- Read the question and explanation.
- Open the source reference or manual section.
- Read the surrounding rule, not just one quoted line.
- Explain the rule in your own words.
- Return to relevant practice when ready.
If the session is unfinished, use Resume this practice. If results fail to load, Try again retries the result request; it is not a reason to buy another pass. The results screen can preserve the distinction between a partial practice session and a completed exam simulation. Do not show an incomplete session's percentage as a full practice exam score.
Lesson 4 — Select a focused practice mode
The state study screen offers several ways to work once the relevant access is available:
- Practice questions by chapter targets a section of the manual.
- Sign-only drill concentrates on road signs.
- Focus on weak spots revisits questions previously missed and not yet corrected.
- Questions you've never seen helps broaden coverage.
- The exam simulation uses the displayed state-specific question count and pass mark, with timing where applicable and review afterward.
A free scored preview uses the remaining free allowance and is smaller than a full simulation. Explain that distinction before clicking. Locked modes may require paid access, the correct state entitlement, or completion of prerequisite study activity.
A practical study routine is to review a topic in the manual, do focused questions, inspect mistakes, and later try a full simulation. Do not tell every learner to repeatedly memorize the same short set until they score perfectly. The intended outcome is understanding the source material across the relevant syllabus.
Lesson 5 — Use My Access and restore correctly
Open My Access to inspect the current entitlement and available plans. Check the correct test state before selecting the one-state pass. The web interface can also expose a partner referral-code field; where visible, the Supporting partner line identifies the code associated with the purchase. Use only your actual code, never an invented example as if it were valid.
After a purchase, look for Your pass is active. If the app says the purchase is not confirmed, use Refresh access and inspect the original receipt and account. A browser return from checkout alone does not establish successful payment or activation.
For store purchases, use the app's available restoration flow with the original Apple/Google account and the correct PassMyDMV login. Do not repurchase while a previous charge is unresolved. Product availability and restore behavior can vary by platform and installed version; update through the official store and contact support if access is still missing.
Time-limited web passes end rather than renewing automatically. That is different from an annual subscription in another portfolio app. Always describe PassMyDMV's specific product, not the general Residual Apps recurring-income pitch.
Explain the conditional guarantee precisely
The web pass guarantee requires the learner to correctly answer every active question for the relevant exam state and class before the official exam. If they then fail, the published terms describe requesting a refund within 60 days of purchase, with proof potentially required and one claim per customer. Read the full current terms before quoting eligibility.
A good score on one mock exam does not meet all of those conditions by itself. The guarantee is a conditional refund policy, not a promise of passing. Apple and Google purchases follow their respective refund process. Wrong-plan or change-of-mind requests have separate conditions; send those to support rather than approving a refund yourself.
Your five-minute demonstration
Use a fictional learner, “Alex Demo,” in a permitted demo account. Choose one state and car practice to keep the first demonstration clear. Prepare paid access beforehand if you intend to show locked modes; do not make an unnecessary purchase during a demo.
- Minute 1: Ask state, test type, and date. Select that state and explain the three-before-signup/ten-total free offer.
- Minute 2: Answer a sample question carefully and show the explanation when available.
- Minute 3: Open answer review and follow a source reference into the official manual.
- Minute 4: Point out chapter practice and the difference between a scored preview and a full exam simulation.
- Minute 5: Compare the plan duration with the learner's intended study window. Show My Access and explain that web passes do not auto-renew.
End with: “Try the free questions and read the source for one topic you missed.” If the learner cannot explain one reviewed rule more clearly, the demonstration has not yet shown the main benefit.
Introductions and objections
Example introduction: “When is your written test, and which state are you taking it in? PassMyDMV lets you try a few questions and review the source in the official manual. I'm an affiliate and may earn a commission if you buy through my link.”
After an invited demo: “Were you able to open the manual reference for the topic you missed? If you're considering a pass, choose enough time for your study schedule and verify the state before paying.”
“The official manual is free.” Yes. The paid value is structured practice, review, and simulations. A learner who only needs the manual can use it directly.
“Will these be the exact official test questions?” Do not promise that. They are preparation questions based on source material.
“I got a high sample score. Am I ready?” A small sample cannot establish readiness. Review the full relevant material and official requirements.
“Can one pass serve my whole family?” The published plans are for one person.
“Why am I locked out in another state?” Check whether the account holds a one-state Exam Pass and whether it is still active.
“Why are free questions gone?” Earlier answers and scored previews share the ten-question limit. Check the account's history and resume unfinished work.
“I paid twice by mistake.” Stop purchasing and contact support with the relevant receipts; the affiliate cannot reverse charges.
Referral earnings and support
Residual Apps publishes 40% of qualifying paid PassMyDMV plans, with the $2.99 Exam Pass currently illustrated at about $1.20 gross commission. These are one-time purchases, so one sale does not create a monthly renewal commission. Eligibility, rounding, refunds, attribution, and program fees affect what is ultimately paid.
Copy your own PassMyDMV link from the partner dashboard and check the destination. Preserve the referral path before signup and purchase. An app-store handoff, another device, an existing account, or blocked browser storage can affect credit. Review your actual dashboard records instead of treating a click or free sample as a sale. See partner program training for platform share and payout mechanics.
Use the official PassMyDMV support page for product, content, or purchase issues. Include account email, state, class, affected question or screen, device/version, exact error, and receipt reference when needed. Remove passwords and sensitive payment details. Use Residual Apps support for affiliate-credit questions with your own link and transaction evidence.
Practice and readiness quiz
Practice the state/class selection, one answer review, a manual reference, a resumed session, and the My Access screen. You should be able to answer:
- How much free practice follows the anonymous three? Only the remainder of ten total; normally seven, less any other counted free answers.
- Does the 48-hour pass cover every state? No; one selected state, all classes.
- Does a one-year web pass renew automatically? No; it is a one-time purchase with one year of access.
- Does a preview score guarantee a pass? No.
- Is the pass guarantee unconditional? No; read the official eligibility and refund terms.
- What if paid access is missing? Verify account and receipt, refresh or restore as appropriate, then contact support before buying again.
- What is a good first customer outcome? Understanding one missed topic through its official source.
Use PassMyDMV, then help improve it
Use the app yourself before pitching it. Practice this guide’s main workflow in your own account with fictional demonstration data. On the platform you plan to show, confirm which controls and plan limits are available. Describe a personal result only when you actually experienced it.
If you use PassMyDMV, tell us through your private partner goals and app feedback page: which platform and app/browser version you use; what works well; what feels confusing, slow, or unnecessary; any bug and the steps that caused it; and the improvement that would help you most. Say whether you use it regularly, tried it once, or are learning it for a demonstration. “I haven’t used it yet” is a useful answer too.
For a problem, describe what you expected and what happened. Share only redacted screenshots when helpful. Do not include customer names or emails, passwords, child PINs, payment details, medical documents, or other private customer information. The partner feedback page helps us learn from actual use; urgent product or billing issues still belong with the app’s official support.
Use the same page to tell us your sales goal, why it matters, your available time, and what help would make your next step realistic. Feedback is welcome whether or not you have made a sale.
